Spring Is Coming!

Some parts of the country have groundhogs to determine the coming of spring, but not in
Western Oregon! Each spring the turkey vultures migrate from the tropics back to Oregon to signal the beginning of spring. In the fall, these large birds return to the tropics to give birth to their young. This week I saw the first vultures flying in the skies overhead. Spring is here!

THE BOOK OF KATI - VOLUME 1 - CHANGES

Who said turning 13 was easy? You try to create  your new look, new clothes, and then you glance in the mirror - ugh! Nothing looks right! Your arms are too long, hair too bland, and no ‘pop’ to your eyes. How can the first day of seventh grade be so complicated yet, so exciting? Will you meet new friends? Will your old friends still like you? Is this the year you have your first boyfriend? What will he look like? So many questions! CHANGES has been adopted by thousands of 5th grade teachers in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and more. Teachers are using the book series as a highly engaging read-aloud book in their classrooms, reading groups, and individually. TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU

I stared at the rows of books in disbelief and excitement. My very first picture book book was one about dinosaurs. This love of books would later include Mark Twain's cha

Did You Know...

Value Of Children's Books Did you know children’s books play a vital role in the life of a child? Of course you did! Parents have been told for years there is a definite relationship between the ability of their child to read and to succeed in the future, which has resulted in kids learning to read at the earliest ages possible. As a parent, you probably understand that this makes sense, even though you may not know specifically why this is so. Here are a just couple of thoughts for you to consider: First, beginning at birth and extending the first couple of years in a child’s life, most children see their world as only including their parents, family, and immediate home or neighborhood. When a parent begins reading to their child, they are essentially exposing them to the wonders and enormity of what lies beyond their front door. The great part is that we as parents get to travel down this path of learning with our children for many years to come, as they begin to un
